Memorial Mass, Friendly Reception, Visit to St. Daniel Comboni Secondary School Project Site

Every year a Memorial Mass is held at the Italian War Memorial Church in Nyeri where, laid to rest, are the remains of the Duke of Aosta, Prince Amedeo Savoia-Aosta. Also buried in the Church grounds are soldiers of different nationalities and religions.


Pilgrimage to Lourdes : 28th April – 4th May 2016

For the two children caretakers from The NEST Children’s Home, Anna Kwena and Moses Omwange , it was an exciting and incredible experience to accompany Joyce Elizabeth (suffering from a leg condition that makes walking and standing difficult) to the Lourdes Pilgrimage.  This was all made possible by courtesy of Princess Tana Ruffo di Calabria, spouse of  H.E. Prince Augusto Ruffo di Calabria, Ambassador of the Order of Malta to Kenya.


Terry Bear Totos

The Order of Malta was happy to contribute to this worthy cause by donating some of the Etihad Airways blankets it had received in the context of the Blankets4Africa project.  Terry Stobbs, the founder of Terry Bear Totos, soon after receiving the blankets, set off early in the morning to deliver some of the blankets/duvets to Githembe Secondary School where the recipients were thrilled to have them for use during the cold nights of June, July and August.


Sleeping Bags Donation To Thomas Barnardo Children's Home

In the context of the Blankets4Africa project, our Order donated 570 sleeping bags (kindly received from British Airways) to the Thomas Barnardo Children’s Home on 1st July 2016.  Of these, 236 blankets were distributed to Mashimoni Squatters Primary School for use by the younger children.  The Head Teacher, Mr. Ferdinand Muzaya, in appreciation of the donation, said that the sleeping bags arrived at a most appropriate time for the smaller children.  The second term is usually referred to as the “winter” season and the warm sleeping bags were also going to be used at home for extra warmth.

On 12th June 2016, in the company of the Very Reverend Monsignor Marco Ganci, Counsellor of the Apostolic Nunciature in Kenya, our Deputy Head of Mission, Dr. Franco De Paoli, accompanied by his spouse, Mrs. Marinella De Paoli, paid a visit to the House of Charity located in Nairobi.

Children's Mass Celebrated at Deep Sea Slum In Commemoration of Saint John The Baptist

Addressing the congregation on the occasion of the Children’s Mass held on 8th April 2016 at Deep Sea Slum in Nairobi, H.E. Ambassador Augusto Ruffo di Calabria said that “it was always a great pleasure to begin the Feast of Saint John the Baptist, patron of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Malta, in a sacred place as this Church of Saint Joseph in the Consolata Shrine located in the Deep Sea Slum, equally sacred for the work it carries out in taking care of many children and teaching them how to face a difficult tomorrow fraught with risks and pitfalls.”
