In September 2012 we provided hand washbasins to Gitiba Primary School in Dagoretti Village near Nairobi.

The trough-like basins have 20 push taps (to avoid water wastage) and 4 liquid soap dispensers. These are positioned adjacent to the pupil’s toilets, with a 10,000 litre water tank that is filled by the city council each week.

Those who generously donated in memory of Gianfranco Cicogna Mozzoni have made all of this possible. The school will monitor the number of children who miss lessons due to illness and we expect to see a drop in the number of absences caused by gastric sickness.

We also distributed Huru Kits to those girls at the school who are menstruating. The kits contain sanitary provisions for these girls so that they no longer miss up to 4-5 days of school each month.
