Meeting in Wamba, 6 - 7 December 2013

Dec 11, 2013

H.E. Ambassador Augusto Ruffo di Calabria, First Counsellor Dr. Franco De Paoli and Counsellor Dr. Maria Enrica Bonatti Mameli returned to Wamba on the 6th December 2013 for a two-day visit. On this occasion, they met with Fr. Franco Cellana from the Consolata Mission, four representatives of the Red Cross (three from Isiolo and one from Wamba), the Secretary and members of the Wamba Community, four Elders, the Parish Priest and the Deputy Parish Priest.

At the meeting, the Ambassador highlighted three salient points regarding the Wamba Water Project, namely a) that water is present downstream; b) that it is possible to drill for water; c) that the water is of good quality.

With God’s help and after having obtained the necessary permits from the Kenyan government, we envisage that it will be possible to commence drilling in February next year and also install a pipeline that will connect the boreholes to the tanks.

We are hopeful that water will start flowing into the tanks by April/May 2014.

However, the Wamba Water Project will require a substantial financial commitment and for this reason an international fund raising initiative will take place in St. Moritz on 16th January 2014 which we trust will be successful. (Below see attachment re: Order of Malta International Games)

H.E. Ambassador Augusto Ruffo di Calabria and the Embassy Counsellors have undertaken to personally make financial contributions in the event the fund raising effort were to fall short of expectations.
