Inauguration Of The Borehole In Wamba

Oct 14, 2014

-         the representative of the Member of Parliament for the region;

-         the District Officer;

-         the Chief;

-         a representative of the Ministry of Health;

-         two representatives of the Ministry of Water;

-         the Elders and Opinion Leaders of the Community.

The Ambassador of the Order of Malta made a presentation on the various technical phases which were required to be implemented for drilling water from borehole no. 5 explaining that the previous 4 boreholes unfortunately had not provided sufficient water.

The local authorities expressed their sincere gratitude to the Order of Malta for all the work carried out to date and congratulated them for achieving so much in such a short time.

The meeting was followed by a visit to the borehole to which a pipeline is connected that carries water directly to the main tank. The beneficiaries of this borehole will not only be the residents of Wamba but also, and importantly, the Catholic hospital which in the past was supplied with water only twice a week despite being a centre of excellence in the region.

In the near future, should the Embassy of the Order of Malta succeed in raising the necessary funds, it will consider the possibility of increasing the water flow by installing a pipeline that will carry water from a mountain source to the main tank.

To complete the visit, a Mass of Thanksgiving was celebrated in appreciation of the success of the Wamba Water Project.

Prior to the Wamba visit, H.E. Ambassador Augusto Ruffo di Calabria accompanied by the Deputy Head of Mission, Dr. Franco De Paoli, Counsellor Dr. Maria Enrica Bonatti, Counsellor Dr. Laura Colnaghi Calissoni and her son Filippo, Mr. Mario Abate, Lawyer, went to visit Korogocho, one of the largest slum neighbourhoods of Nairobi. The Embassy plans to hold a Holy Mass in early April 2015 which will be presided over by H.E. Archbishop Charles Daniel Balvo, the Apostolic Nuncio and attended, among others, by 700 slum children. Counsellor Laura Colnaghi Calissoni together with her son Filippo have promised to provide the children with a football T-shirt and shorts. This news was most welcome by all the community dwellers.

On the evening of the 7th October 2014, Mrs.Marinella De Paoli, spouse of the Deputy Head of Mission, organized a lovely dinner in her traditional elegant style at the Embassy residence to which the following guests had been invited:

  • H.E. Ambassador of Germany and spouse

  • H.E. Ambassador, Director General of UNON
  • H.E. Archbishop, Apostolic Nuncio
