House of Charity - Poverelle Sisters of Bergamo

Jul 19, 2016

On 12th June 2016, in the company of the Very Reverend Monsignor Marco Ganci, Counsellor of the Apostolic Nunciature in Kenya, our Deputy Head of Mission, Dr. Franco De Paoli, accompanied by his spouse, Mrs. Marinella De Paoli,  paid a visit to the House of Charity located in Nairobi.  The purpose of the visit was to donate blankets (that the Embassy of the Order of Malta had received as a gift from Etihad Airways) to the abandoned children being taken care of by the Centre.  As always, the Embassy was able to bring in the blankets as part of the Blankets4Africa initiative very ably spearheaded by Mrs. Daria Von Weyhausen.

The House of Charity was put up by the Poverelle Sisters of Bergamo in April 2013 for orphans and abandoned children.  The mission of this Centre is that of dedicating itself to the poorest of the poor, especially the marginalized, rejected, abandoned, lonely and unwanted.  The Sisters, led by Sr. Agnes, a very active, hands-on and compassionate person, participate in the work of salvation through feeding, caring for, sheltering and educating abandoned babies so that their lives are transformed as they take their first steps in this tumultuous world.
